What is CISM? Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a service sponsored by Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems to aid in the recovery of those affected and/or involved in a critical incident. |
What is a Critical Incident? Any event outside the usual realm of human experience that causes stress or trauma to those experiencing and/or witnessing that event or situation. Examples of a critical incidents are: |
Car, Bus, Train, or Plane Accident • Line of Duty Death or Injury • Industrial Accidents • Workplace Violence • Domestic Violence • Suicide or Homicide • Child Abduction • Natural Disasters • Fires • Bomb Threats • Explosions • Acts of Terrorism |
It is not so much the type of incident or event that is important, but rather how those involved respond to it. All emergencies are stressful, but certain critical incidents can cause distress for emergency responders and the community. |
Who Does the CISM Team Serve? The general public, private and community organizations, emergency service personnel, 911 dispatchers, victims and families involved in or exposed to a critical incident. Services offered by the CISM Team are educational and supportive, not psychotherapy. |
